Hannah

Hannah was my first Standard Schnauzer. I had been without a dog for several months after Holly was killed, and I went to the Humane Society to see what was available. I had been interested in Standard Schnauzers for a while, but they are hard to find. On the bulletin board at the shelter was an add for a 1 year old Standard, free to a good home. The catch: she was not housebroken. I thought about it for a moment, then decided not to look into it.

About a week later, a friend of mine who was a dog groomer called me. She knew I was looking for a new best friend. She had just finished grooming the dog that was on that notice at the shelter. She said I absolutley HAD to meet this dog, that she would be perfect for me. The scoop on the house breaking thing? She was a left over puppy from a show litter and lived out in the kennel. She wasn't housebroken because she had never been in a house!

My friend Steve and I went to meet her, and of course, I fell in love. Hannah came home to live with me and very quickly adjusted to home living. She had a favorite green rubber hedgehog that she played with first thing when we got home from work every day. She was obedient, funny and most of all, she adored children. Given a room full of peoiple, she would seek out and sit beside anyone under the age of 10.

Hannah went to work with me and it was here that she met her demise. She was attacked and mauled by another dog on the farm and did not survive her injuries. I have very few pictures of Hannah. here are the best of them:
