Holly came to me from the humane society. She was a purebred German Short Haired Pointer. And a bird dog, through and through. She would sit in the driveway and watch the deer march through. But let a butterfly enter her realm, and they were fair game. She was well educated when I got her, and very loyal. Her only issue was fear of abandonment. She adored going riding with me and would heel beside my horse for hours. She was very protective of "her" cat Meekay, and would guard the kitchen while Meekay ate. Every morning, they would go out the door together, with Holly trying to chase the cat that would not run for her.
She met an unfortunate demise during Ronald Regan's last State of the Union address when a car lost control on my hill during a snowstorm and slid into her in my driveway. She ran back to the house and died on the doorstep.
