Music

I am a folkie. I grew up in the Boston area, Harvard Square, Club 47 music world. I started playing guitar at the age of 8. I wanted to grow up to be Joan Baez. So much for one's dreams! I still play and sing, but only for my own joy.

I love all kinds of music. In addition to Folk and Singer/Songwriter stuff, I adore Beethoven, especially Symphony #7 (Thank you, Marilyn Ziffrin, for teaching how to listen)

My absolute IDOL though, has long been, and will always remain, Janis Ian. Her music holds me up in a very special way. I have gotten to know her even better thanks to modern technology, and was even able to help her do some research for her autobiography. Her web site has a forum that is home to an amazing community of her fans who truly care about Janis and about each other.

Other artists I am particularly fond at the moment of are, in no particular order:

Kate Wolf

Indigo Girls

Tom Rush

My current collection of guitars includes a 1966 Martin D-18, a 1953 Martin 00-17, a 1990 Martin 000-16, a Martin Backpacker, a 1963 Gibson SJN Country Western, and an early 20th century Washburn 111 which has a Brazilian Rosewood body and incredible sweet strong tone for a little tiny guitar. I have a modest collection of other folk instruments that I don't or can't play.
